The Virginia MonumentThis monument was the first Confederate monument built at Gettysburg. The statue is of Robert E. Lee, a Confederate army general, riding his horse, Traveler. The men at the bottom of the monument are meant to represent men of all kinds who left their home and trade to serve in the army. On this statue all four hooves of the horse are down which mean that the soldier came out of this battle unharmed. If one hoof is raised, he was wounded; two hooves raised, he was killed.
